Commonly know as the Cast-iron plant or bar room plant, the aspidistra defines resilience and durability. This tropical evergreen plant provides a low maintenance green ground cover in shaded gardens and even partially shaded areas. Several varieties of aspidistra include variegated and mottled varieties. These add a splash of color to the groundcover adding visual interest to the garden. Aspidistra does well in a range of lighting conditions, from shade to partial sun, making a very versatile foliage plant.
These sturdy plants do well when planted in rich soil. They are rather a drought tolerant; however, when watered regularly, they will respond well. Use a general-purpose fertilizer will help keep the plant green and vibrant. This plant spreads slowly, so prune it when it starts to get out of bounds or to remove damaged leaves.
Note: These plants are grown for decorative purposes and are not intended for human or animal consumption
