This week feature plant is our Cordyline (a.k.a Cordyline Fruticosa).

Cordyline’s bright and colorful foliage make it the perfect backdrop for this Fall season. The dramatic deep burgundy and bright magenta are fantastic bold colors to decorate gardens, porch or patios.

If you choose to use in the garden, these are ideal for a narrow space since they grow upright and do not spread out too much. Plant cordylines as a backdrop around a pool or in front of a fence. Because of their upright growing habit, they can also be used to punctuate each side of a hedge with their bold color. These tropical plants grow very well in zones 10 and above. They do well in zone 9; however, they will most likely suffer cold damage. If this occurs, they can be cut down to the ground in early spring. The plants will "spring up" vigorously and give you a beautiful display of color all summer long.

If you choose to use in a container, you can keep this beauty outside until temperatures dip below 55, then it's time to bring inside and enjoy as a houseplant.

⭐Our favorite varieties are: Cordyline ‘Electra’, Cordyline glauca, Cordyline ‘Hawaiian Boy,’ Cordyline australis ‘Red Star,’ Cordyline ‘Florica,’ Cordyline ‘Jackie,’ Cordyline ‘Red Sister’ (Featured in our picture).

Fast Facts:
🌤️ Light: Full Sun to Partial Shade -- They prefer part shade in the afternoon when it is hottest. Some varieties like direct sun all day long, others prefer part shade most of the day. Check your specific type for light requirements.
💧 All cordylines prefer well-drained soil, she does not like her feet wet.
💗 Why we love it: It's colorful foliage is just breathtaking.
