Bold colors, tropical shapes, and easy to care for are just some of the fantastic traits that philodendrons bring to the garden. Some philodendrons are mainstay houseplants, such as the ‘Swiss Cheese’ and the ‘Hope.’ The petite leaves of the Xanadu make it an ideal selection for a border plant in the landscape. At the same time, the Selloum variety has large elephant ear-shaped leaves that is perfect for planting along fences or open areas that need filling in. The Red Congo, Moonlight, and Prince of Orange have colorful leaves that go great with other shade-loving tropical plants. Philodendrons make lovely accent plants, mass plantings, and border plants.
Philodendrons enjoy full sun in the mornings and late afternoon. Still, they prefer some shade from the punishing heat of the mid-summer sun. Plant in well-drained soil and fertilize starting in the spring and then in the summer and fall. Prune only yellow or damaged leaves.
Some of our favorites: Moonlight, McColleys, Prince of Orange, Red Congo, Xanadu, Hope, Monstera, Brazil, Selloum, and Swiss Cheese
